What’s the difference between Independent Living, Assisted Living, Memory Care and Skilled Nursing?

Independent Living offers room, board and other amenities for a monthly fee but does not provide personal care or medical services to residents. For those that do not need assistance with daily tasks but would like the safety & security of living in a community such as this.

Assisted Living offers room, board, meals, assistance with activities of daily living (such as bathing/dressing/grooming/etc.), mobility assistance and medication management but no medical services to residents.

Memory Care is for those dealing with the effects of Alzheimer’s or dementia with a higher level of security and assistance than other care options. Memory Care facility staff are specifically trained to care with these individuals and their family to offer the support they need.

Skilled Nursing provides 24-hour medical care and supervision to those with chronic health conditions or those recuperating from a medical procedure or injury. They provide transitional care between the hospital and home.

Are pets allowed?

Yes, pets are allowed, but you must adhere to these rules and guidelines:

Proof of animal immunization is required.
Pets must be 10 lbs or less.
Aggressive breeds or animals exhibiting poor health or behaviors will not be allowed access and/ or will be removed from the facility.
A non-refundable pet fee is required upon admission and/ or before your pet is first brought to the premises.
The resident must be able to care for all needs of the animal.

Does Medicare, Medicaid CHOICES or OPTIONS cover the cost of Assisted Living?

Neither Medicare nor Medicaid Options cover the cost of Assisted Living. Medicaid Choices does pay a portion of the cost of services at an assisted care living facility. Choices pays a portion related to the members personal care needs, homemaker services, and taking your medicine. You must pay for your room and board. Please speak with our Administrator for more information.

Can I bring my own furniture when I move into Assisted Living?

Yes, our rooms are not furnished, but certain items are not allowed on your apartment, ever:

Anything deemed unsafe, offensive, or disruptive to your roommate or staff, including but not limited to video cameras and recording devices.
Medications, including over the counter, creams, ointments, powders, etc. cannot be kept in your room without an order from your physician.
Illegal or street drugs and weapons are never allowed anywhere in facility.
Any type of smoking or vaping materials or items, including lighters.
No extension cords; power strips only.
No space heaters.
No cooking appliances other than a microwave

You can have electrical appliances (e.g., TV, radio, phone charger, computer).

Electrical outlets to plug in your items are limited and all items requiring electricity must meet our safety standards.
Laptops and computers are welcome! WiFi is free! However, if you use our internet for unlawful reasons, your access will be cut off immediately and we will contact the appropriate authorities.
Smart Speaker devices (i.e., Amazon Echo, Google Home, Apple HomePod, etc.) and other video or audio broadcasting or recording devices are not permitted. Please check with facility administrator.
Coffee makers are permitted only with an automatic shut-off.

Integrate: we demonstrate compassion and respect as we integrate all that we learn from each individual to truly create a personal experience.

What services are not provided?

We are not a hospital, and we do not provide one-on-one resident care or observation.

While we strive to help you achieve your goals, we cannot promise or guarantee any medical, or psycho-social outcome.

There are natural risks of life which cannot always be prevented in our facility. Common risks when living in an assisted-living environment may include:

Falls - If you fell at home before coming to us, or you choose not to follow recommended health advice, chances are you may fall again here.
Skin Breakdown – As a result of aging and multiple medical conditions, your skin may be prone to skin tears and skin break down and bruises.
Elopement – The Facility strives to prevent residents, that are not safely capable of leaving, from exiting the premises unaccompanied, however, it is possible that a resident may leave the premises and wander off unnoticed, given that we do not provide one-on-one resident care or observation.
Loss of Personal Items – Our staff will attempt to protect personal property, but we cannot guarantee its safety.

Can residents leave the facility?

Yes, residents can leave the facility.

Safety is our priority, so we need your physician’s approval if you wish to leave facility grounds alone.
We welcome and encourage family outings, and home visit overnight stays!
Sometimes, medical appointments will require you to leave facility, although facility may offer Telehealth Services onsite.
Each time you leave facility, staff must be notified, and you must ‘sign out.’
During pandemic times or for other safety reasons, facility may discourage or even prohibit leaves, based on current government recommendations or regulations.

Can a resident receive mail at the facility?

Yes, residents may receive mail at our facility:

You will receive mail addressed to you delivered at facility unopened, and as soon as possible. Outgoing mail is generally sent within 24 hours unless there is no postal pick-up service that day.
Staff can assist you in opening your mail, if requested by you in writing.
The administrator and approved personnel can handle processing and responding to your mail, if requested by you in writing.

Is smoking allowed at Signature Lifestyles?

No, we are a non-smoking facility.

Is there an extra charge for housekeeping and laundry?

No. We offer weekly housekeeping, laundry and linens service.

Do you have nursing staff 24/7?

No, we provide a licensed nurse 12 hours per day and 24-hour caregivers. There is an administrative nurse on call 24/7 for emergency concerns.

Is a landline phone included?

No. But you can have a landline phone installed in your room, at your own expense. You must contact the phone company and make arrangements for this.

Do you have memory care/are you a locked down building?

No.

Do you offer transportation?

Yes, we offer scheduled transportation to medical appointments and shopping trips. Some restrictions apply.
